I think the decision to remove app name and icon is separate from the new activities/workspaces indicator.

For knowing what app I am in: In MS Windows e.g. there is no separate indicator either and it seems to work by the "whatever is on top"-heuristic plus subtle hints like lower contrast on inactive windows.

@aral I love JS Doc (also for the small doc comments that the editor will display when using it); What I find difficult is that interfaces/implements could be very useful, but importing these from another file is …awkward? Does not work? Is undocumented? …certainly a mess.

@scottjenson no blogpost but I think the idea makes a lot of sense. We had both tech- and UX debt at Mediawiki and I think often they are very much intertwined – you can't fix UX without some code change, but the code change would propagate, so you patch over it but the solution is not consistent with other code nor UX, so now you have more debt in both UX and code. However, this is not just an opensource thing, I guess…

- Leadership is an interesting perspective, since open soruce projects sometimes have strong, opinionated leadership (Linux, Python…)
- *Planning* (be it central or not) might be the crucial point; planning artifacts are rarely used and management (where "planning" often lies) is eshewed actively.
