Tenacity inherited various experimental features from Audacity, some enabled and some not enabled. MIDI was one of them.

We have a bit of experimental MIDI stuff lying around in our codebase, including a MIDI (i.e., note) stretch feature that's documented to be broken and buggy). Just recently, @gperson (that's me :D) got the feature to compile again. It didn't look like it worked, but it was tested on Linux when it was documented NOT to work.

The mysteries await 🤔...

We know that Tenacity is somewhat unusable under Wayland. However, we might be closing in on solving an issue with the playback cursor not updating. See https://codeberg.org/tenacityteam/tenacity/pulls/134 for more details.

This might give us an edge over Audacity on Linux: better usability under Wayland xD

Interestingly, the latest development version of @LMMS is 1.3, the latest stable version being 1.2.2. Our latest beta is 1.3, although we don't have any stable version out yet. If you count Saucedacity as the latest stable version, however, then it's 1.2.1.

This is too much of a coincidence 🤔...

@LMMS Well, saying that LMMS has better MIDI support than us is to say the least. Let's also add this: LMMS is better at making beats with better MIDI support (including a piano roll), has 16-bit synthesizers, and...well, there's quite a bit to mention. Now you have the best of all worlds: Saucedacity's backported clip titles and codebase, Tenacity's untangled dependency mess and design enhancements, and Audacium's light, dark, and Pro Tools themes!

We're working on enhancements to vcpkg. Using the vcpkg-fixes branch and setting the new environment variable TENACITY_TRIPLET_OVERRIDE to x64-linux-dynamic means a working version of Tenacity built with vcpkg! Well...sort of. On Arch, the default font was weird in my testing. But hey! It's a start!

Changes to the default triplet on Linux means that overriding the default triplet won't be necessary. This will be done later.

The reason we have to override the default is because it builds static libraries. While this may or may not work for some of our dependencies, linking against static wxWidgets is broken and won't work. Therefore, we need to use the dynamic triplet version by default instead (adjusting for arch as necessary).

A few minutes ago, a change was just comitted that makes Tenacity a little more redundant against crashes involving its own IPC resources. Hooray for redundancy! :D
