@mekkaokereke @22 I agree on the whole, but I think it is somewhat gendered. There is still this idea that something must be "wrong" with a woman who is very nerdy but only moderately interested in things like fashion. As a teenager 30 years ago, I was bullied heavily by other girls for being nerdy, and I believe this is still a problem even for girls today. On the other hand, I know few nerdy women who would flat out dismiss other women's interest in fashion or celebrity gossip.

They view these as "women's topics". Conversely, however, they often still expect women to focus on interests like fashion and not get excited about technology.
