@blakespot Back in the late 90s I worked at a now-dead retail shop for map maker Rand McNally. We sold tons of maps, domestic and international. We also sold a huge line of Eagle Creek products. I actually won retail dude of Xmas season one year, and wom 2 free large bags. One had carry-on wheels. They both converted into backpacks.

Eagle Creek was the best. I wish I knew the name of your little pouch - I'd pick some up off Ebay! Cool stuff.

Blake, do you think you could pull your PKG off that Newton and send it to me (sometime this year)? Wrap it up in a SIT file or something before moving it to a modern Mac. Your MBP will get mighty confused about a PKG file... I could then transfer it over move it over and see if it fires up. If it does, problem solved (and if others want it, the PKG could be shared rather than a S/N number).

@vga256 It's almost as if 1.0 has been surgically erased from our timeline.

@blakespot Do you happen to have a copy of NewtHack 1.0? Been looking for the old original version but can't seem to locate that PKG.

I can only find 1.1, and the 1.0 code doesn't work with it.

@vga256 I know of 1 person who actually paid for the license back in 1998 and loved the game. But... he lost the email to the sands of time with the code. @blakespot

@falken @vga256 @newtontalk I tried multiple times and it keeps rejecting the email, which is really weird because I’ve been a member for a long time and I’ve sent to it before. It’s still just sitting in my outbox.

The Lost Vikings, originally released on SNES in 1993, was quickly ported to Amiga where it looks and sounds *fantastic*.

Silicon & Synapse, the company that produced this game in southern California, would go on to become Blizzard soon after its release.

What’s crazy is back in 2021 I went down this rabbit hole before. I even located the original software dev. He responded to me and told me he was unable to recover the Zip disk that had the original source for the project, but he appreciated the flashback.

He mentioned at the time that he was totally fine with someone hacking the game if anybody wanted to give that a shot to bypass the registration code . He even asked me to let him know if anyone was ever successful. 😕

@vga256 Mine is version 1.1, yeah. There's even a separate sound package that hooks into it, which is pretty cool.

About a week ago I posted about NewtHack, a Roguelike for Apple Newton that only lets you play level 1 unless you buy a key. I was complaining how so many of these old games/softwares were soft-locked now by asking for codes we can no longer provide.

Someone here sent me a code for an earlier version to try. But now that reply is GONE, apparently deleted. Are you still here, anonymous kind soul? Can you send it to me again?
