@lori @aral yes, Turkey was a capitalist country before Erdogan and he didn't change that the slightest. That explains why the country's economy continued to grow. But I'm not asking for speculation. A "theory" was proposed where it is claimed that neo-liberal policies before Erdogan resulted in him getting the support of the disfranchised. So I'm asking, to people who may know of the situation at the time, if the previous leaderships followed neo-liberal policies.

And what were the Turks tired of? Economical growth? Your analysis seems a bit simplistic to me. Could the grip Erdogan has over every aspect of people's lives, namely the press, education, the courts, and so on, be a more plausible explanation?

I have seen this one guy who moved to his own instance and posted pictures. It was impossible to get anything older than some days.
