    @MischievousTomato @coolboymew No, but things like "I'm just going to write my entire shell and applications on top of a browser engine using webshit", it's becoming a big trend. Google already does it with ChromeOS, many Linux vendors do it out of expedience, and while Apple emphasizes native APIs over webshit for their platforms, they deeply integrate WebKit with the underlying operating system and otherwise pull many of the same tricks the other vendors do in order to keep their moat intact.

    @coolboymew @MischievousTomato Because the consent decree expired and because to some extent all their competitors are doing it now too, especially with the adoption push for things like Electron and PWAs.

    @MischievousTomato @coolboymew This used to be true with EdgeHTML Edge, but now it's just Chromium with a few tunables set so realistically I don't think it should make a huge difference (maybe shelling out to WebView2 which is always running old IE style? Funny how history repeats itself in that way)

    @MischievousTomato @coolboymew Like infamously back in the Windows 98 days Microsoft shelled out to iexplore.exe for a whole bunch of things with the shell so that they could claim that IE was "more efficient" than Netscape and integration with the operating system was necessary, and I think a similar situation is happening now with WebView2 being used to implement a bunch of user facing stuff on Windows 11 including large parts of the shell, then claiming that Edge is more efficient because it just is, carefully concealing the fact that now you're running two browser engines instead of one at once if you're using a competitors product. As much as some people might like to believe it, you can't really teach an old dog new tricks.
