@foone One of the data formats we're forced to work with uses seven bits of seven bytes. Then uses the last byte to reconstruct the eighth bit of the first eight bytes.

Please don't say Mastodon or the Fediverse is "impervious to private take-over".
Remember when email was built to be impervious to private take-over, but now nobody can run their own email server because it got taken over by corporations?
Remember when the internet was impervious to private take-over because we had distributed routing and stuff, but now it's entirely taken over by corporations?
Nothing is impervious to greed and money. Don't be complacent.
