@cwtch Actually I intend to store externally, in an encrypted and redundant way, as happens in Nostr relays where everyone can bounce everyone’s data but where encryption protects communications and privacy.

Why do I prefer it?

For a practical reason: I don’t want to bring local backups with me.

@AvengingFemme problem is that social is filled with Bitcoin fans. Air is unbreathable. So the only crypto payment (zap) available is BTC.

A social network, for definition, should be anarchist, not flagged for a specific topic or crypto.

Although with the best intentions this is not the best approach possible. If one hundred of my contacts were on a hundred different relays then I would be forced to add them all in order to stay in touch with my audience.
Let’s say that the main problem lies in the protocol: each relay does not talk to everyone else, by design.
Until the design is this then it would useful having at least four or five mass relays in common. This is only my opinion.

@thatguyoverthere your own relay is a local community, empty. In order to connect to other people you should add some other relays like tunnelsats or mado.
