does anyone else have screamer anxiety? there are certain things i'll see on the internet that trigger that. a lot of the "liminal space" images do that for me, like if i stare at it for too long a scary face is going to pop up.

@xianc78 yeah he's a really weird dude for sure. don't think anything he did is really cancellable though tbh. just enough to like, not watch him if you don't like him i guess lol.

@xianc78 @DreamSketcher in terms of game mechanics, yeah. i think there is probably something to say about the size of a world and how fleshed out it feels too that lends itself to a game being "open world." it's probably a bit of an overused term but like any genre of anything, everyone probably has a different opinion on what it is exactly.

The reason nobody uses email these days is because it gets spammed to hell and back. Imagine if every single website you made an account for spammed any other messaging app. It'd be chaotic as hell.

@xianc78 @DreamSketcher there's a difference between open world and sandbox. Elder scrolls is pretty damn open world, but not as much of a sandbox. Breath of the wild is definitely open world, you can complete anything at any time even the final boss.

My game is almost like botw except the final boss is gated by defeating all the other ones.

Open world game = lots of bugs. Loooots of bugs. I think by now I've easily fixed 200+ since "finishing" my game. Anything from a graphic being 1 pixel off to boss battles being skipped. I'm sure there are plenty more, too. I'm never making a game like this again xD it's way too massive with so many moving parts. Makes it really cool when it works but it's so hard to find stuff that doesn't work. It depends not only on what you do but when you do it.

@DreamSketcher take my word for it.... Don't do it. Even after working with rpg maker for 10 years, it has taken me almost 9 so far on top of that to make this thing

@MK2boogaloo thanks, appreciate it :D i don't expect that though, fuck if i end up moving to the east coast with my brother that'll probably be that. none of us really talk to each other online at all either. best to just enjoy the good times while they're here.

@MK2boogaloo in the past two years, i've managed to get all of us together a total of one time! normally it's in random pieces.

in about 10 hours i'm hangin with 3 of them, and that's like the "core" group so that'll be good at least!

@MK2boogaloo two friends who are reclusive gamers who will literally not doing anything else (other than work) unless their girlfriends drag them along. two friends who are the successful family men who ignore all texts. thankfully the last guy isn't in outpatient rehab but he still lives at home with his parents when he's not going to school out of state during the winter/spring and doesn't know what he's even there for. he's been talking about becoming a glowie for the past like decade.

@xianc78 @LukeAlmighty DVDs don't have encryption, you can copy straight from them just like (most) CDs. Blu-rays do though.

Turns out with UHD it's a much more weird subject. The only chip manufacturer that was ever capable of decrypting them was Intel. They stopped doing it as of their 11th gen processors. Because of that, a lot of drives were updated to not support the format either, I think. I have a 10th gen so normally it would be fine, but the software to play Blu-rays removed the functionality too. I could try and find an older version of the software, but that means I'd be locked to only watching movies from before 11th gen came out because new keys are always releasing and only a handful of companies actually have the rights to use them.

I think it's probably pressure from movie companies to prevent computers from playing them, or asking for ridiculous amounts of money for decryption keys. It's stupid either way, and yeah... This is why people pirate.

These UHD files are like 60GB, so what I'll probably end up doing is ripping the files off of them since that's still possible, and then burning them to an unencrypted Blu-ray.

kind of crazy that a manufacturer can just "upgrade" firmware and remove features. then encrypt said firmware to make it harder to downgrade.

i just downgraded my blu-ray drive's firmware so it can now play UHD discs.

oh great and now i'm just finding out that you can't even play the discs with powerdvd. why the fuck is playing blurays on pc so fucking hard? i know it's a more niche thing to want to do but it's so annoying that it's THIS difficult, nigh impossible, when blu-ray and UHD have been a thing for so long.
