On to-day's dog walk, #Gruoch stuck her muzzle into a clump of grass, as she is wont to do, hundreds of times every day. Suddenly, her head swivelled around and she threw out a vole (Microtus agrestis).

The vole hit me square in the face. To say I was surprised would be putting it mildly. I'm sure the vole was quite surprised, too.

The vole scurried off, and hid in another clump of grass.

Good idea. If the DB seems to be draining resources I could move it to a new VPS. I also have some servers with existing Postgresql installs.

Hmmm. Would the above specs be sufficient to run a personal, single-user Nextcloud instance. Just for the purposes of mobile syncing, and, maybe, irregular file sharing.

TBH I much prefer Postgresql, and I notice that is supported for Nextcloud. Not sure if it is less or more resource-hungry than MySQL/MariaDB.

I've taken out a VPS from Ionos (formerly 1and1). It has 1 vCore, 1 GB RAM, 10GB SSD, unlimited traffic, root access, and a choice of distros, including Debian, Ubuntu & CentOS. Plesk is also offered free, but, I've not used it.

All for the ridiculously cheap price of £1 (£1.20 incl. VAT) per month. At this price it would be rude not to test it, which is what I'm doing.

The spec is limited, but, I can think of hundreds of uses at this price point.
