The saga of GNOME DRM Leasing is fun > ACK let's implement it > No we're not implementing we never agreed to do so > Valve should come up with something better > Lets implement a portal > Lets not > Lets implement a Dbus service > Lets not > Lets implement the protocol actually
As of about a week ago an MR was opened to get the protocol implemented, so soon Valve can finally stop recommending that you install KDE as a fix to get VR working on GNOME wayland
I've seen a lot of interesting discussion regarding Mint's choice to downgrade some apps to the GTK3 version, later fork them. Whilst a lot of people have been critical let me provide another perspective
Projects like Mint do not like the state of GNOME/where it is going, instead of just sitting around whining about how much they don't like it they've taken it upon themselves to fork tools and maintain them for their own project. You may disagree with that choice but this is the spirit of FOSS
The same can be said about COSMIC from System76, they have had serious disagreements with the direction of the project so they said "fuck it, we're just going to build our own desktop and run it the way that we want to run it".
Could problems just be resolved upstream, maybe. But they have decided that this time has passed, any attempts made didn't go the way they wanted so they've decided to go off and do their own thing.
@monster@joojmachine@reflex@thibaultmol At the end of the day it's just all people talking on the internet, when someone actually does something in the real world expect me to tear it apart
@reflex@monster@joojmachine@thibaultmol Thoughts and prayers are a waste but if somebody feels like they're being persecuted for there beliefs when they personally haven't done anything that doesn't help the situation either. You can only deredicalize people by meeting them where they are and then overtime smoothen out the problems
@TheEvilSkeleton It was an intentionally inflammatory example, the point I was getting at was it's not seen as issue if you're someone that likes the person, but there are a lot of people out there who don't and all including them does is makes you a target for needless harassment.
@TheEvilSkeleton@alatiera@lea When you're already a target if you're from a project like GNOME for example there's no point painting a bigger one on your back for no reason at all
@lea It's just pointless drama to use Karl Marx as an example, it serves the purpose but you know people are going to harass you for it. Just use a cat picture or AI generate a face
I'm surprised how controversial it is to suggest that you shouldn't unintentionally make yourself a target of harrassment and you should be careful on internet
