тняэдт™ (threat@ryona.agency)'s status on Sunday, 18-Aug-2024 00:39:47 JST тняэдт™ mk, here's what i would try in order
- shutdown machine
- pull the card
- install old gpu
- boot with an ubuntu live usb
- if graphics work proceed
- shutdown machine
- install newer gpu
- boot with an ubuntu live usb
- if graphics work then it's not the mainboard, gpu, psu, or rams
- you've likely got kernel modules missing or not being set to load at init/boot
- if everything works then stops working later document what you are installing (libs, software, drivers, etc) and start an elimination of adding/removing until you find the culprit
thank you for choosing komrade threat's komputer lab. stay tuned next week for coupons on 40tb tape drives, only dropped once!

тняэдт™ (threat@ryona.agency)'s status on Sunday, 18-Aug-2024 00:29:25 JST тняэдт™ @lina @MK2boogaloo @syzygy feels like a driver issue. if the old card is different architecture it could be simply a matter of loading kernel-module or trying to run some strange amd thingy. although about of the box rx5xx cards i've had in the past work on some really old linux kernel versions. -

тняэдт™ (threat@ryona.agency)'s status on Saturday, 17-Aug-2024 02:45:06 JST тняэдт™ @mint @pwm i will save the "btw" comments. i used to use arch-based as well. the breaking point for all of this was every time i build a system i'm pulling 10-20gb from internet. multiply it by many machines and i lose my will to live.
thinkpad still has nix on it, but i think i'll have something simpler and less painful soon. -
тняэдт™ (threat@ryona.agency)'s status on Saturday, 17-Aug-2024 02:38:08 JST тняэдт™ @mint @pwm what are you using for desktop if i can inquire? i think i know the answer but polls are not open yet. -
тняэдт™ (threat@ryona.agency)'s status on Saturday, 17-Aug-2024 02:28:45 JST тняэдт™ @pwm @mint im close to daily driving. still needs work on the turbo before she's ready -
тняэдт™ (threat@ryona.agency)'s status on Saturday, 17-Aug-2024 02:28:44 JST тняэдт™ @pwm @mint do you guys have some recommended daily-driving configuration(s)? i'm writing ansible to auto-config my desktop/laptop turbocharger. but i think it's likely a blowtorch threading a needle. maybe just the apkovl or cloud-init.
i'm also wanting to build custom image to use on different platforms so today is research day. :helpcomputer: -
тняэдт™ (threat@ryona.agency)'s status on Friday, 16-Aug-2024 10:25:20 JST тняэдт™ @mint @dcc id definitely throw fast disk, ram, and cores at postgres. and if you're on <15 consider an upgrade path. its faster and ive got config if you need it dcc.
