Please don't write "fan fiction" about me. It creeps me out when it's shared with me.

Seriously folks. Have you seen modern HTML and CSS? It rules and HTML/CSS programmers are awesome.
Use less javascript
@Gargron I appreciate the prompt answer (and I deleted another post asking you directly in response to Gary's post).
Can I ask for a broader gender diversity breakdown of that team? Because one woman doesn't seem like enough but I don't want to judge if that person is performing the entire task.
New life hack:
When the dudes at the home improvement store insist on knowing what you're working on *before* helping you find things, just tell them you're working on an art project.
They'll stop telling you "how you should be doing it", and instead just help you find the thing you're looking for.
I still use Firefox. It's still fine, uBlock still works on it.
I know Mozilla isn't perfect, but I still feel they're better than the alternatives on the whole.
I've also been playing with LibreWolf (a fork of Firefox) and it's got some strong defaults, but it's not packaged for all distros yet so it's hard to recommend it.
There should be a law against this.
Your average user is going to think something is terribly wrong with their computer just because they didn't sign over their rights to Microsoft.
Yes, I can mute the conversations, and more frequently that's what I'm doing.
But the problem here is that I can't moderate what I don't read. So we can either have:
1. Unmoderated slime, or
B. Burned out users moderating their comment sections.
All because Mastodon doesn't give us a third option to block replies. I should be able to close a thread when things go zany.
(This is not an invitation to tell me about other software that does this, I'm intentionally singling out Mastodon.)
Note: my Mastodon only sends me a notification for replies. So... this is only 73 new replies since last night around 11.
And, here's the thing- I'm not even that popular of an account.
Even then, my checklist-before-tooting looks like this:
1. Will someone threaten to harm me or my family when I post this?
2. Do I have the time or energy to evaluate and push back on rude commenters, reporting baddies to instances?
3. Do I have other conversations which will get drowned in the muck after posting?
Two of these three can be mitigated by judiciously closing comments on other platforms. We should have it here too.
@LexGear Lately I've enjoyed Bitwig Studio. It's not FOSS but the paid version comes preloaded with tons of instruments and a few really great editing workflow options.
Ardour is also really good but I've had a hard time integrating software instruments with it.
The rise of ChatGPT-style "AI tools" is a climate change issue. Advertising them is, by extension, an attempt at disengaging our sense of alarm.
Therefore, "you need to adapt and learn these 'tools'" is an anti-climate stance. Companies that engage in marketing these tools *are* engaging in the politics of climate change, even if they don't know it yet.
You open up a Commodore 64, and the box says "welcome to the world of friendly computing."
You turn on a modern PC, and it immediately threatens your data unless you agree to save your data to *their* cloud service.
That right there is why we talk about vintage computers. Folks need to be reminded of what's possible.
Jellyfin is awesome.
I pay $0/mo in streaming fees, which never ever increase. Storage is cheap and can also back up my family photos. And I've never lost a show or album due to licensing issues.
I acquire as much new media as I want to, and pay nothing if I'm disinterested.
Jellyfin is exactly the media future I expected as a kid, and it's glorious.
I get snarky sometimes, but it does grind my gears a bit when folks say "desktop Linux isn't for professional work" when I've been predominantly using desktop Linux for all of my professional work for more than a decade.
Like, your assumption isn't everyone's reality, and if you reply at me suggesting otherwise, I'm likely to call you out or ignore you.
I make dorky YouTube/PeerTube videos about Linux and vintage tech, and occasionally write about stuff. I'm also a geeky musician and used to be a COBOL dev. Pronouns are she/her.Proudly supported by viewers like you via Patreon and Ko-Fi. Thank you for your consideration!Mutes/blocks rude folks and reply guys. No offense, just not interested.(This is my new account, I used to post at @vkc.)
