#Introduction

I have been working with Web technologies since 1992. I have co-founded two browser companies, Opera Software and Vivaldi Technologies. I was CEO at Opera and I am CEO at Vivaldi.

I am a strong proponent of open standards. I believe in building feature rich products that can be adapted to the needs of users without collecting information about usage. I believe no company has the right to profile their users.

More operating system results!

My operating system survey on #Twitter gave different results than the one run here.

On Twitter, #Windows had 51% market share, while #Linux had 29%

On #Mastodon Windows had 23% market share, while Linux had 50%

On Twitter MacOS had 20% market share, while on Mastodon it had 26%

I got a lot more response on Mastodon than on Twitter. I do have almost twice as many followers on Mastodon as on Twitter, but the engagement difference is a lot bigger than that.

A lot of the problems with the Internet today is related to big data and surveillance based ads. It is time for a change. Sadly the same companies that gave you surveillance based ads, now want to give you AI. Time to move to the #fediverse

50% Are using Linux! :tony_grinning: ❤️

The results are in and the verdict is clear. Survey shows that 50% of those polled are using Linux, 26% are using MacOS, 23% are using Windows and 1% of those polled are not using a computer.

The sample size was 1155 people. The survey was performed on #Mastodon / @Vivaldi Social with the parameters listed below.

Great to see Linux continue to grow and a great turnout for Mac users!

During President Biden's state of the union talk yesterday, one of the things everyone agreed on was taking on Big Tech.

Hopefully we will finally see a stop to the surveillance economy. There is no reason why companies should get away with profiling their users. Just because it is easy to do, does not make it right to do it.

One of the problem with discussions on privacy on the Internet is the idea is that it is personal.

Now, I may understand the questions and I may be able to make choices that protect my privacy, but that is like being one of the few alive in a zombie apocalypse movie. You may be alive, but everyone else is running around chasing brains...

We need to fix the issue and that requires banning the surveillance economy.
