A lot of people seem to have opinions on browser cores.
We built one. From scratch. We know what it takes to do, also knowing that big tech does its best to create incompatibilities.
Presto was, IMHO, the best browser engine, but that was more than 10 years ago. I wish development had not been halted and it would not have been halted if I had had anything to say about it.
Now we build Vivaldi on Chromium and we do feel it was the best we could do. We can build a great browser based on Chromium. I hope you are all enjoying Vivaldi. If you have not tried it, please do.
What are the similarities between Encarta and #OpenAI ?
When Microsoft bought the Encyclopedia Encarta, one of the first changes was the text about Bill Gates. Are we seeing the same happen again with OpenAI and Bing Chat? Based on my own informal research, that seems to be the case.
There is a lot of problems with OpenAI being incorrect, but when it is incorrect on purpose, that may be even worse.
We will do almost anything to entice you to try out @Vivaldi. We have:
- Built the most powerful browser around with tab stacks, tab tiles, web panels, page capture, sync, and a lot more. - Made it easy to personalize, with custom keyboard shortcuts, custom mouse gestures, custom themes and a lot more. - Included a powerful mail client, calendar and feed reader in the desktop browser. - Built in a tracker and ad-blocker, for better privacy. - Made it available on most all platforms, including cars.
We will continue to try to win you over. How about giving us a try? If you are already using us, thanks!
I got a rather special gift today from the Japanese team: the first phone shipping with Opera in Japan, which was also the first phone in Japan to ship with a full Internet browser.
The Kyocere AH-K3001V.
People were in line to buy the phone, with the line going far into the street. This was in 2004, so long before the iPhone was launched.
The phone had a special Opera button and there were billboards on the local trains marketing the phone as the first phone to provide full Internet access.
This is part of the special relationship we have with Japan and still have, but now with Vivaldi.
One day after launching Vivaldi on iOS, Vivaldi is the top iPad app in Norway and #5 on iPhones. Not a bad start at all. We are on the list in many other countries as well.
Make sure to share the great news with all your friends! @Vivaldi is now available!
Pretty major #Vivaldi update on #Windows, #Mac and #Linux. This time the focus is on a major code rewrite, which facilitates faster window opening and overall easier codebase to work with. You can read about it here!
My first Pixel Fold had a camera issue after 3 days. The issue was that the main camera just stopped existing or was busy. Kind of both. It could not be used.
I chatted with Google and they sent me a new phone. This one has a camera that is there, but it also has that shakes.
No, this is not my hands shaking!
It does not shake all the time, but a lot of the time. It is a shame. There is a lot of good things to be said about this phone, but there are clearly some issues.
Elon Musk has tried everything to get people to move off #Twitter. He has:
- Fired most of the staff. - Let the trolls out. - Boosted the trolls. - Reduced visibility of postings by normal users. - Demanded payment from users. - Reduced the number of posts people can view.
Meta has to stop surveillance based advertising... in Norway.
The Norwegian Data Protection Authority imposes a ban on Meta carrying out behavioral advertising based on the surveillance and profiling of users in Norway.
This is an important first step, although temporary. What we really need is clear regulation and no way to opt in, as that is always misused.
My first smartphone was the Nokia 9210i Communicator. This was also the first phone that had the Opera browser. The phone I used was a prototype of that phone, given to me by Nokia.
The phone had a full keyboard, which was actually pretty good. It had a wealth of useful Psion applications.
I kept using this phone for years. It really was that good.
Before that I had other mobile phones from #Ericsson and #Nokia.
I have been working with Web technologies since 1992. I have co-founded two browser companies, Opera Software and Vivaldi Technologies. I was CEO at Opera and I am CEO at Vivaldi.I am a strong proponent of open standards. I believe in building feature rich products that can be adapted to the needs of users without collecting information about usage. I believe no company has the right to profile their users.
