@jeffmcneill If we start to maintain Debian's own repositories then in fairness to other distros, we'd be expected to maintain their's too, and with so many distros it'd be a lot of work (and we have very limited resources). In most cases upstream developers (like us) work on the software, and the individual distribution maintainers look after their repositories.

LibreOffice (libreoffice@fosstodon.org)'s status on Sunday, 03-Dec-2023 19:48:57 JST LibreOffice @SarraceniaWilds There is a solution: help us to implement it, or fund a developer! We're a volunteer-driven project with very limited resources. We love more features too, but they only happen when people contribute or fund developers to work on them. I know that's not the answer you're looking for, but if people help us, we'll get all these features and more 😊

Nothing will change in the release engineering and schedule – just that the version numbers now say something about when the software was released, to add some context.

LibreOffice (libreoffice@fosstodon.org)'s status on Thursday, 30-Nov-2023 16:44:07 JST LibreOffice @Schimmelreiter Ah right – yes, when we release LibreOffice 24.2 in February, LibreOffice 7.6 will be the older maintained branch. So there'll be a bit of overlap where both version numbers are used.

LibreOffice (libreoffice@fosstodon.org)'s status on Wednesday, 29-Nov-2023 22:52:02 JST LibreOffice @makerblock Yes – and it's not just the updates. Apache OpenOffice has major problems fixing security issues on time: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apache_OpenOffice#Security – so using it in a business is risky.

LibreOffice (libreoffice@fosstodon.org)'s status on Wednesday, 29-Nov-2023 22:46:31 JST LibreOffice @vartak Because we have extremely limited resources, and are doing everything we can for all the requests we get. We can't magically fix all issues without more help. If just a tiny fraction of users help us, we'll have the issues fixed much more quickly 😊
