@Awoo The Rise of the Machines sure isn't going how everybody expected
Finally got the end of Chapter 4 of The Long Dark's "Wintermute" story campaign. 5 is supposed to come out late this year, and I'm actually looking forward to it.
It obviously carries the stink of Modern Year gamedev in the narrative/character choices, and the script writing for cutscenes verges on atrocious at times. But it also never goes so woke that it prolapses itself, so its easy enough to ignore.
The core survival gameplay loop is actually pretty good... much like a high rez version of NEO Scavenger (my other favorite autistic survival game) its punishingly difficult until you learn the basic survival mechanics, and then it remains challenging enough to keep you on your toes without being too frustrating.
For all its writing faults, story mode is better than pure survival for me. Normally fetch quests across open world maps are boring & dumb, but when going from Point A to B to get Item C for NPC D involves the core mechanic of balancing resources, surviving the weather, surviving wild animal attacks, and exploring to find the best route, it makes each leg of the journey a unique struggle, and the story progression is the cheese at the end of the maze to keep you going.
Some may be turned off by the traces of soy in the campaign, but if you can tolerate it I'd say it's a pretty good game under the hood.
@greyarea ...oh my god. And the price can't be beat.
"Secret Jewish Rape Tunnels" was not on my 2024 Bingo card
"Streaming Saturday: S.T.A.L.K.E.R Anomaly, Part 19 - the VOD!" is now available on Odysee:
I'm genuinely flabbergasted that nobody has yet claimed fuckfuckgo.com
Before retiring for the evening, I'd like to take a moment to remember a hero. Tima Butterfingers was a dedicated Freedom member, but he was so much more than that to those that new him. He was also an enthusiastic gun owner, a passionate Bob Marley fan, and prolific smoker of the wacky tabbacky.
Tima's life was tragically cut short in Limansk, ended by a Monolith bullet. Or possibly a Sin bullet, or maybe even a friendly fire incident. We're honestly not sure how he died, but what matters is how he lived. And we can all take comfort in the knowledge that he died doing what he loved... killing for fun.
@Svantovit "If you CAN describe your job in 3 words, it might still be bullshit", would be the follow-up assumption.
@DarkMahesvara The unfortunate result here is there's no book to pirate. The JP translation is in a Kadokawa vault, probably going to get mothballed forever now. Somebody should leak it, but they probably won't.

In which the Japanese translation of Abigail Shrier's book is shut down by transgender ideologues, who lie about the motives and consequences of their actions even as they unilaterally decide on behalf of everybody what books Japan is allowed to read.
@Heil_Honkler @lemi I had fun documenting the situation three years ago
@lemi トイレットペーパーというと、あの時のパニック買いを覚え出すね…
@DarkMahesvara zero casualties to report there
@Zerglingman I'm not in danger here, I can say that much.
Well this is a fine start to the fucking year...
I'm not dead, by the way
@SuperSnekFriend あけましておめでとうございます

@DarkMahesvara Happy New Year ✌🎉
