UN experts decry mass graves in Gaza. Over 390 bodies found at Nasser and Al Shifa hospitals, “including of women and children, with many reportedly showing signs of torture and summary executions, and potential instances of people buried alive.”
The debate over whether to let people launch particles into the sky that would reflect sunlight back into space has been tabled after talks at the UN Environmental Assembly ended in a stalemate. @verge has more on the countries that tried and failed to establish tougher ground rules on solar geoengineering. https://flip.it/ugYSJr #Science#ClimateChange#UN#Geoengineering
The #US has blocked a statement, put forward by #Algeria and backed by all #UNSC’s 15 members except the US, to the #UN Security Council that would have condemned Israel for the killing of more than 100 Palestinians awaiting food aid in northern Gaza. The US claimed it is trying to verify the “circumstances around how people died” to see if “we can find some language that everyone can agree on”.
This reminds me of the days after Saddam used chemical weapons against Halanbja in norther Iraq back in 1988, when US and UK used the EXACT same language to prevent the UN to condemn the attacks and blamed the "both sides" for the "loss of lives".
Back then the president was republican, now it's democract. So I guess, US foreign policy doesn't change much from the 2, when it comes to supporting "strategic" partners of US (at the time).
German politicians and media outlets are outraged that a jury member and the directors of the award-winning documentary “No Other Lands” condemn Israel for its war crimes at the Berlin Film Festival.
Véréna Paravel who presented the award stated, "Now there can be no more denying the relentless abject horror of Israel, illegal military occupation, and settlements." The Palestinian activist and filmmaker Basel Adra urged Germany to respect UN decisions and stop exporting weapons to Israel.
Israel—a terrorist state committing genocide in Palestine backed by the US, Canada, and the UK—has just destroyed the office building of the Belgian Agency for Development Cooperation in Gaza as retaliation a day after Belgium announced it would continue to fund the vital humanitarian work of #UNRWA.
"[F]or me this is unprecedented because of, one, the magnitude, the scale, the entire population of a particular place; second, the severity; and, third, the speed at which this is happening, at which this has unfolded, is unprecedented. In my life, I’ve never seen anything like this in terms of severity, in terms of scale, and then in terms of speed."
