I prefer Edo Japan's feudal domain (藩) system over Meiji Japan's prefectural (県) government system.
Each domain (藩) was like an independent community under a country (國) that's part of Japan (日本).
Domains shared a common language and culture, but everyone had their own currencies, culture (culture within a culture, yes), traditions, and so on.
People also seemed much more freer back then, as everything was more about commerse and travelling, whereas today it's all more about work and paying extortion, I mean taxes to the legal mafia, I mean central government to prevent you from getting rich, I mean to build roads.
Also, in Japanese we say 明治維新, which in English gets translated to "Meiji Restoration".
The English term however is incorrect, because a "restoration" suggests that there was something before we got back to, but the stuff introduced during that time period was brand new.
The Japanese term on the other hand is correct, 明治 is just Meiji, and 維新 is innovation, and "innovation" suggests bringing something brand new to life.
The 明治維新 was brought to us by the Jews/Freemasons, which is obvious, because it's all about westernizing Japan, authoritarianism under a central government, and stealing away people's means to defend themselves (swords and guns).
