Most of the stuff we mistake for desperation is just the lower third of their pyramid’s retards - the true believers - reacting hysterically. They have a LOT of control in this world, the stuff that passes for big moves right now is still piddlywinks compared to what they COULD do.
Actual desperation would be shutting down huge swathes of the economy that hurts them just as much as us. Right now they’re just cauterizing a nail bed to undo an ingrown pinky toe, painful sure but not the end of their catalogue. Desperation is amputating a limb and cauterizing the stump to keep the venom from spreading further
