@Eiregoat @nugger @whiteman_ Have you TRIED to get a loan? I needed my wealthy parents to cosign mine and I was making $100k+ at the time. Granted I was fairly young, but I don’t imagine it’s much better now.
If I were charting my course I’d buckle down in a good career that will provide good income and enough time off, start the family in suburbia, and once you have enough of the kids come of age then I’d move out to a homestead. That would give me a better buffer, better foundation at work, and more assistance around the home to make sure the time dad DOES spend on farm stuff is spent on the advanced issues and not the scut work.
Telling a 24 yo to just buy a plot of land and start doing it is too risky, he’ll be cutting corners somewhere and before you know it he’s selling the place at a loss because buyers see a bunch of repairs he’s been putting off.
