@Eiregoat @nugger @whiteman_ and the money? The guys thinking about this lifestyle probably can’t scrape up $5k cash overnight, and that’s probably in the middling range of farm repairs. You need time, and you need money. If you have a career that’s worth the time you’re investing, it’s not gonna leave a whole lot to go home and play around with farm equipment.
How do you plan on even making the payments on one of these places? You buy a homestead and remote work? How many of those jobs are easy to snag AND pay well enough to let the wife stay home with the kids? Everyone I know either has small holdings & family support or prior wealthy they bring to the table. It’s not realistic for a young guy to think he’s walking right into it unless he’s got a real smart plan to avoid a lifetime of scraping poverty
