Centralized platforms all have a built in expiration date, throughout history they all rose to the top, and then they collapsed.
Before Skype everyone used MSN, Yahoo! Messenger, and ICQ, now nobody even knows what those are.
Meanwhile, I'm still using XMPP and IRC (though far more active on IRC because that's where all the action is) today without any problems, and perhaps these 2 will even survive the next 5 world wars while all the others are only going to exist for 2 decades at most, which at this moment seems like the only one who will manage to reach that mark will be JewTube, but they still have 2 more years to collapse before that.
