I do have like 5 beta players in non-functional or mostly-non-functional status (while I have dozens of working VHS VCRs) but I think that's just a statistical thing. When VCRs got cheap, people threw out broken ones and replaced them, while Beta never hit that level of ubiquity.

Also I keep buying "unknown if works" ones for cheap from garage sales and ewaste. If I definitely wanted a working one, you can pay and get them on ebay.
