@xian @Moon @aetios for dovecot it's just "where do you want your mail on disk, how do you want your mail stored [i think it's maildir by default, which is sane], and is /etc/shadow authentication enough for you" which it usually is, so you can just use your account password. i do that for my irl email since everyone on my irl box has a shell account anyway and i dont have to set up sql
