Very is "とても” here,that meaning is "so" or "too".
For example, you can use like this.

とてもつかれた　（I'm so tired)
とても辛い（It's so spicy)
とても寒い（It's so cold)

Well I can't imagine your situation.
Basically, I guess most Japanese people don't know how to use English.(well that problem include me)
Japan try to be strong like the western and America and then we having so many weird words of foreign origin,these words make the problems in my English learning.
