gentooP (gentoop@social.mikutter.hachune.net)'s status on Saturday, 27-Apr-2024 23:46:10 JST gentooP @MK2boogaloo @scarlet I think some of these are based on tangential tag stuff. I hopped on clear YouTube and started to watch Vocaloid stuff and then it showed this Jaiden animation gay closet video for some reason probably because it mentioned or manually tagged Vocaloid onto that video. Since I was on private instance I couldn't get rid of it on the sidebar. We all know they do this kind of stuff with the top toolbar, it's not out of reason to say they do to other stuff.

Like it or not, most of the things YouTube pushes to you is based on your watched history, and sometimes Google search history too (though I haven't used Google search in a while, so I don't know how much that influences things these days). But what were the breadtube videos about? Cause it they were tangential to a topic you saw a video from a right-winger on, that's what it will base the recommendation on. Watch a video on someone saying "taxation is theft" and YouTube will think you're interested in "taxation" as a general topic, and give you the breadtube view too, just in case.
YouTube's recommendation matches can be quite loose at times. Watch a video on F1 racing, and you might get a recommendation of Jay Leno talking about his car collection. Watch Minecraft videos showing off mods, and you get recommendations of people talking about how to optimize game engines. For this example, the connection might not be immediately noticeable, but remember, some of the most used Minecraft mods have to do with optimizing it to run faster. Hence, you the recommendations about game engines.
Not all connections are "here's the exact same thing as the previous video". If you watch political commentary videos from time to you, you'll get breadtube videos too, because the algorithm isn't quite that sophisticated to know what is left-wing or right-wing. It knows some YouTubers are connected to others, so it will have a sort of Venn diagram of the 2 sides, but as far as it's concerned, both circles are within a "politics" circle, so it will try to offer you videos from all of the "politics" circle. Like Minecraft and game engines are 2 circles within a more general "gaming" circle.
As for the "femboy" recommendation... do you watch vtuber or anime related stuff? Anything related to tomboys perhaps? Anything that discusses trans people (even derogatory)? All of these have a potential of being adjacent to the "how to be a femboy" topic to the YouTube algorithm.New Janny in Town likes this.
