@inertia@RustyCrab looking at their non-devlog videos (especially the kickstarter trailer) it feels like they have a vision without an identity, if that makes sense.
Like they seem like they have a strong idea for what the gameplay should be, but all aesthetic choices - the art, sound, and the way they present their project - feel kind of generic. It's tough because it's something a lot of teams struggle with and a solid aesthetic vision is very difficult to manage even for people who are aesthetically inclined.
And I'm not even saying any of it is of poor quality - it's very polished and clearly everyone on the team is very competent at what they do. They just needed some bit of spice to push it over the edge, I think.
