     for a brief moment, we left the confines of our world and our dreams of inhabiting far-off world were plans. we created machines that harnessed a history's worth of knowledge to break the walls that keep us on this rock. but alas, it will be our grandchildren's grandchildren that have the privilege of stepping foot on another world. our sole obligation to our descendants for this trip around is to ensure that they can exist to be able to do so.

     @Victor_Emmanuel @ghostwaffen @Godcast @boeswilligkeit I think cutting down local trees to build log cabins and surviving off local flora and fauna is much different from bringing tons of metals and plastics from earth to build pod homes on another planet and surviving on CalorieMates and vegetables optimized for hydroponics where a small leak in the seals of our pod homes means we lose all our air and fuckin die.

     That's just ISRU. The equivalent on Moon or Mars would be making bricks from regolith, extracting metals and oxygen from regolith.

     The early English settlements in America were highly dependent for certain critical high tech items from Mother England. Cannons, for example. Important items needed for defense against Indian attacks and rival Europeans.

I've mentioned this before, whether or not you desire an interplanetary civilization comes from a fundamental difference in ideology you and I have. that being said, why would you desire to just stay here? creation is beautiful, should we not venture out to see all of its glory?
