Oh, he did a video on Songs of Syx? I played a good bit of it last year. Pretty good game, but I was kind of underwhelmed with some parts of the game, like army management.
Looks like it's been updated twice since though, so maybe that stuff has improved.
And yeah, that's how things go. You won't see a soul bring up something you enjoy until someone with an audience spreads it, then suddenly half the Internet is jumping on the bandwagon.
I felt the same about Sousou no Frieren, since I read much of the manga before the show was ever announced and never saw a single person mention it, then the show aired and it went from ~70 images on Gelbooru to >3,000 in a few weeks.

@handsomewinner @Ronnie21093 Army management sucked indeed but it seems to not only have gotten better but it will get even better soon. This new update coming very soon will be the last before the 1.0 for SoS. I found SoS way more entertaining than Dwarf Fortress even with the retarded contraptions you can make in DF and the extra world history.
Like DF has complexity galore, but it feels way more chaotic and random and I dislike the focus on your shit eventually having to be ruined. :shrug: I find the "losing is fun" part of the gaming community too retarded for my taste.
I just hope that the dev adds a bit more to the combat system beyond just polishing it.

@handsomewinner @Ronnie21093 I kind of feel the same way, but there are some loops I found to be enjoyable, e.g. Tarkov's loop.
Or unlocking my mind and creating new blueprints on Factorio all by myself, sometimes "big number go bigger" is enough to entertain me to a point afterwards. I guess Factorio does have a game loop I enjoy, which is funny because I'm not that big of a fan of sandbox games, say, the last sandbox besides Factorio that I played was Surroundead, which wasn't really good, the combat is just cheesing the enemy or aim at the head simulator, so the moment I got super good loot from raiding a prison (dungeon-like entrance key needed so it's the "end game content") I got bored, since I 'maxed out". Enemies just aren't threatening, my survival issues have been resolved and the combat is just trash without much to think about besides "shoot enemy in head fast" or "snipe enemy from afar so they don't rush you".
There are some things I always found cool.
The idea of Research in games or anything that needs to be worked towards to unlock something you haven't seen before and that brings new mechanics to the table. XCOM and UFO: Extraterrestrials were scratching that itch. I mention UFO first because it's the first game I played of the type, while Xenonauts is something I only played after playing both XCOM and UFO. Gameplay just for gameplay's sakes will need me to have something more to play around to make combat more interesting late game.
Games with interesting mysteries that aren't RPGs but your game must at least have some modicum of interesting gameplay.
For example, I found Subterrain Mars of Titan to be cool in the beginning, it had the whole progression system in crafting and research, it really was a good sequel to Subterrain. Until I saw the repeition... And that the endgame is pond deep... And that the research stops abruptly... And that the items are pretty fucking useless and very "X is good vs Y but trash against anything else" with exactly 4 damage consumable types. So I spoiled the endings for that as well.
Phoenix Point was also one of these until I found the game to be pretty woke and meh as hell in terms of gameplay and research, with unintuitive loot and progression system that don't make sense.
Or ARPGs like Diablo. I still play Grim Dawn and create builds for it and level up characters. I like games where I can create builds for my character, where equipment matters and a mix of skills creates a unique experience.
Last Epoch for example was cool until I found out it had pretty trash crafting and the only "synergies" were very simple skills with mutations, Grim Dawn just blows it out of the water in that regard.
But I'm not autistic enough for games like Path of Exile, I actually abhor that community.

I played a bit of Dwarf Fortress back in 2014 or so, but never got extremely into it. The ways in which you lose mostly felt frustrating to me. I did enjoy making weird characters in adventure mode though. I like RimWorld and Kenshi a lot more (with mods), honestly.
I usually lose interest in a game quickly if there isn't a sense of progression towards a goal, since I typically don't find the rest of the gameplay loop that interesting. So I generally don't enjoy things like fighting games or shooters (unless with friends) for instance, since there's really nothing to progress towards other than getting better at the game.
It's kind of a shame because there's fighting games that I appreciate for other reasons, but the gameplay doesn't interest me enough to stick around past the story.
