Analysts don't think China's new Type 004 is even remotely ready for sea trials

@nugger @Evil_Bender thats just circling back around to carriers
If they'd swallow their pride and look for areas in tidal shadows they could do something like fort drum
The airstrip, being stationary and far flung, would be vulnerable to the dumbest shit and be cratered as soon as hostilities commence but the actual structure would be there until someone tootled up and pumped in vx or napalm (this is more or less how we cleaned the japs out of drum)

@Paultron @Evil_Bender DARN
THATS A SHAME
COULDN'T THEY JUST MAKE THE WHOLE THING A GIANT STEEL BUOY
-
@Evil_Bender HONESTLY THE ARTIFICIAL ISLAND THING IS BETTER VALUE FOR CHINA
A CONCRETE AIRCRAFT CARRIER THAT CAN'T SINK AND DOESN'T NEED ANY ENGINES OR NAV OR ANYTHING BUT GIVES YOU THE EXACT SAME POWER PROJECTION A CARRIER PARKED IN THAT AREA WOULD
THE CHINESE AREN'T TRYING TO BIGDICK IT AROUND THE WORLD USG STYLE, THEY WANT TO ASSERT POWER OVER THEIR CORNER OF ASIA AND SO THEY DON'T NEED THE FLEET TO BE ABLE TO MOVE TO THE MIDDLE EAST AT A MOMENT'S NOTICE

@nugger @Evil_Bender the islands are probably about as maintenance heavy as carriers. They were placed for strategic value, not longevity, so tidal action erodes them at obscene rates. If an island belonged there, it'd be there already more or less. you can see the conga lines of dredgers and freighters heading to and from these islands on satellite imagery struggling to maintain enough surface area to hold the airstrip

@Evil_Bender CARRIERS ARE INCREASINGLY JUST TOTEMS OF POWER MORE THAN THEY'RE USEFUL
EXCEPT THE JAP STYLE SMALL HELI CARRIERS -- THESE ARE REASONABLY PRICED AND CAN BE ADAPTED AS A CHEAP KAMIKAZE DRONE LAUNCH PLATFORM AS A BONUS

what's their position on the f35?
-
What a piece of shit that thing is.
>should we build the F15EX or the F35?
Which one works and which one can we bill out the ass for?
