I don't have a whole lot of patience for this shit. Have had some pretty close incidents over the years, two that stand out really bugged me because guys older and more experienced than me just wanted to sit there staring at the FBO wall and think about mortality for a few hours
The last time it happened I told him "you have a few minutes to get your shit together or I'm leaving you here, I'm not hanging around here all day watching you eat peanuts"
Our big push for safety really makes us coddle people, we're creating generations of fearful, hesitant pilots that have been told they need to be at 100% absolute perfection before dispatch, and it's unquestionable if they show up and say "aww shucks I'm at like 90% today, I can't go". Same as any other well-intentioned rule, it's meant to give us ammo against workplace abuses and fatigue, but faggots end up taking the privilege too far and burdening everyone around them.
If you're a man, a Captain in life or industry, you have no business taking the helm if you can't box up the panic, put it on the shelf for later, and get the job done when you need to.
And if you aren't prepared to meet God today, maybe get ready so I don't have to listen to a bunch of promises about how you're going to turn it all around....only to forget all about them when the adrenaline wears off.
