If you separate her from the web of culture, society, community, team, tribe, clan, whatever group she pegs her judgement to: She won't have the self-confidence to know she's making the right choice.
In dating, you see it when girls ignore a guy until he lands a gf, or they ogle a man with a wedding ring. Girls look at those and know that another girl found him desirable enough to CHOOSE, so they feel that he MUST meet some standard of quality.
The men's version can be seen as: "If it's such a nice car, why's it still for sale after 8 months on the market?"

actually for a cocky woman it's a challenge, a trophy to steal a man away from a lesser woman. It's part of why some are so jealous and wary of their guy being around other girls.
