@kirby @prettygood >man I really don't want to have to have a server to read chat history
>NUH UH YOU CAN DO OTHER STUFF
>like what
>uhhhhh do you have a spare server
I get that you like it because its old and shitty like pretty much everything FOSStards love but IRC is right in that sweet spot of feature-light but not feature-light enough (just start a mail list) but also missing critical features for modern messaging (just spin up a Matrix server)

@sapphire @kirby yes, in fact, it is, because it filters people. If you're there its because its worth the time and effort required to join or participate in a community. A modest gatekeeping is healthy.
-
@prettygood @kirby also even if I was "filtered" by IRC why the fuck would I want to use it? Why is "its more difficult to use for no benefit" a selling point to you?
-
@prettygood @kirby >bro I literally <an entire paragraph of shit specific to you>
-
@sapphire @kirby filtered by typing commands into an interface
-
@sapphire @kirby bro I literally just run weechat in a tmux session that's open anyway on a VPS that I'm doing a hundred other things in anyway. What's required is typing the word "weechat" and I'm connected until I reboot once every few years.

@prettygood @kirby @sapphire Irc is simple to learn, but want to learn filters out people who want to give no effort.
