   That’s who you should be protecting.

   If for no other reason than if you don’t, you will be next. Maybe not today. Maybe not tomorrow. But you will be next.

   (Or you will have to do things that will make you wish you’d been next.)

   That’s just how fascism works.

   And this is fascism.

     @aral Actually, you have to do more than just look around you - you have to get out into the world, if you can, and find those who are marginalized. Because it's pretty easy for them to just disappear.

     But yeah. Agree with your point wholeheartedly.

     Defending somebody in need is an altruistic, even heroic, thing.

     Defending somebody who can perfectly defend himself is paternalistic and diminish you both.

     And if the defendant is stronger than you, that makes you a stooge, if not a complete fool.
