     If gays were forced into the closet in the 1980s a lot fewer of them would've died of AIDS.

     Gay people "living their lives" means unprotected anal sex with many strangers, which is how you get AIDS. Gay activists knew this but never allowed bathhouses or the like to be closed even though they knew that's what was facilitating the spread.
