     It's an optically opaque dust cloud but it's transparent in other wavelengths like infrared or x-ray

     Like seriously I just looked this up and it's molecular cloud Barnard 68, about 0.25 light years wide and it's a classic example of nearby dust clouds since it's only 500 light years away.
     
     There's actual void spaces in the universe but they're in the order of scale far larger than galaxies. Like the aptly named Giant Void or the potential Eridanus Supervoid. We may be living in a void called the KBC void since we basically have no galaxies around us compared to what we see elsewhere in the universe.
