How do you explain the Bash shell to a Windows user?

@nixCraft How does the command line in Windows not work
@nixCraft Might not have the effect you're hoping for. Microsoft has been carefully conditioning their customers to be comfortable with impotence. If you tell them that the Linux shell gives them total unrestrained power over their computer, they'll be terrified, not inspired.
@nixCraft Only if you don't have spaces or any other "fun" chars in filename or dirname...
@nixCraft Imagine you’re trying to write a program, but your programming language has only a single data type. Bash needs to go.
@nixCraft To be fair, that's less "bash" and more just "*nix consoles." Rather than really being about which shell you actually use, most of that is the availability and power of CLI programs to actually do things.
Though Bash scripting can do quite a lot of powerful things too of course.
Mostly I'd just say it's far more pleasant to use with more control, things like colorization for easier visualization of things, better tab completion, etc etc.
