I managed to see the eclipse today. It wasn't in totality and clouds kept interfering, but it was still quite a sight to behold. The sky went dark, and at one point the cloud cover showed off the crescent sun even without visual aid. Truly amazing. I like to think that when God made day and night he orchestrated the eclipses as rare intersections of light and dark in full visual spectacle.
In many stories, the eclipse is a sign of catastrophe, a cataclysm, a major event in the story. I find it interesting that it falls upon now, a time of tumult and unrest. It's almost a foreshadowing of a cultural eclipse, a prelude to the climax of civilization. It'll be a while until the next eclipse graces the Earth, and I wonder what kind of world it'll perform for then.
