     @coolboymew Precisely the reason why I gifted mine away. For "just werks" Nvidia on Linux, the only reliable option I've found is Pop!_OS

     Granted that could be my old mpv settings, but I quiiite don't like this
     
     The whites are all sorts of weird too, same issue I get every installs until the drivers works
     
     Either way, I game here and there, so I want to make it work

     @julia Oh, actually I ended up going back to MX Linux (Debian). A friend had recommended Garuda and it was about high time I upgraded my distro, so I decided to try it out and... it kept locking at loading ramdisk after the initial install, oof
     
     I already wrote about it in the forum, hopefully I get a solution soon. Somewhat irritating because they're supposed to have an easy installer to avoid problems like this!

     @coolboymew@shitposter.club I wish I had an nvidia card so I would have had some battle experience to help people when they run into issues with it, but I don't :(

     @coolboymew @julia iirc nvidia uses a different video decode tech, vdpau, so perhaps you need to configure it properly. There's a vaapi driver for nvidia gpus but i dont remember the name

     @coolboymew @julia dang. Yeah I dont trust those tools. That said on nixOS I have everything nicely set up and my Intel igpu just works. I also avoid Nvidia because of those things.

     @birdulon @netdoll the drivers are new from Dec and the distro has a very specific tool made to specifically install install Nvidia drivers

     @coolboymew @netdoll Newer kernel versions will be a problem for proprietary drivers built against old kernels, yes. You're largely stuck using only kernels the vendor blesses if you want things to work as intended, which can be fine for some users, but I'm too jaded to deal with that noise so I just don't buy Nvidia these days.
