lamp (lamp@kitty.haus)'s status on Sunday, 07-Apr-2024 00:28:20 JST lamp I have iMac on which I removed broken screen and use with external monitor.
Problem is the LCD has temp sensor. Without it the SMC goes into retarded safety mode spinning the fan up super loud and making it unusably slow with bare minimum speeds.
So I had to leave the LCD board connected. Problem is then it would display stuff on the non-existant display and I couldn't see preboot screens and stuff.
So I fixed that by cutting off the big chip in the middle of that.
Problem is then it has been making high pitch noise without that chip.
So I tried snipping components off it to stop the high pitch noise. But then I killed the temp sensor.
Cause apparently the temp sensor isn't simply wired directly through the ribbon to the motherboard like I thought, it's wired to some system on the board itself which communicates its status. So I don't know how to solve it without any compromies.
And although I was able to force CPU frequency back up, it is not working anymore after reboot. I also tried TurboMac https://github.com/calasanmarko/TurboMac in mac OS but it did not work, someone said to delete a kext but how fuck you do that now the system is immutable!
So now it's fucking fucked! A replacement screen costs as much as the whole fucking thing! And even a cracked one is $60...
