why do some people seem surprised that we’re doing final assembly and testing of tangara ourselves? it’s our device! we’re making it! why would someone else be making it? i would do more of the work ourselves if we could!!

minute (mntmn@mastodon.social)'s status on Friday, 05-Apr-2024 18:22:38 JST minute @jacqueline can extremely relate. a bunch of people suggested to me in the past that we have to get a contract manufacturer. but then we would lose direct control over the quality and would have to constantly communicate with another company over little issues, and we couldn't directly inspect incoming parts and would have to rely on others to care about their quality and spot issues, etc

minute (mntmn@mastodon.social)'s status on Friday, 05-Apr-2024 18:26:40 JST minute @jacqueline we outsourced the sewing of the sleeves this time—the last time we had someone come to us and sew in our studio, but it was just too much for us this time. and the thread communicating about getting this sleeve made right with the manufacturer is over 100 emails long, and we have a freelancer who took care of only that problem _and_ greta also had to take care of it as well
