   There are different levels of "collapse." Rome stumbled through centuries and survived in spite of numerous crises that would usually pop up every 80 years or so. But there need to be people capable of stepping in and holding things together in the midst of such a crisis, and it's not at all clear that Clown World can produce anyone like that.

     Can we raise up for ourselves great men for when the time comes when they are needed? I don't know if we can, but we can at least work to help them not be totally worthless retards, which could well be enough to pass for greatness the more things go to shit.
