A lot of cores and 96 GB of RAM.
It is, well, a little too little some times… -

Osfast (osfast@mastodon.social)'s status on Monday, 25-Mar-2024 18:06:02 JST Osfast @nixCraft you know what, after going quad-core I stopped counting, the difference in day to day performance is negligible.

Georgimus Prime (georgeeyong@mastodon.social)'s status on Monday, 25-Mar-2024 19:37:01 JST Georgimus Prime @nixCraft 4 and 8 cores 16GB RAM on the two main ones. I use barrier/synergy for keyboard and mouse sharing and syncthing/unison to keep ongoing work files in sync, so they generally work as one. I'm happy with it but I wouldn't mind a single powerful machine with lots of external screens.

16 threads, 32gb of memory. I suppose I'm happy with it. It runs a little warm under pressure and I still need to stress it out with building the kernel or chromium. -

@drewscorner (dragonbite@mastodon.social)'s status on Tuesday, 26-Mar-2024 03:38:26 JST @drewscorner @nixCraft Maybe 2-4 cores and 8-12 GB of RAM. It works adequately.
I don't do a lot of hardcore things with the computer.

Nazo (nazokiyoubinbou@mastodon.social)'s status on Tuesday, 26-Mar-2024 06:20:53 JST Nazo @nixCraft I have a 5600X and sort of regret it sometimes, but then in actual practice I've found few things are actually truly utilizing those cores super well anyway. Pretty much only encoding and compression can fully utilize all cores. Games typically use 2-4 cores in my experience.
Actually, I've found that turning SMP off has benefits. Things are more stable and I get better metrics. Many things that benefit from more threads can be manually specified.
So I guess six is actually fine.

Nixen (nixen@mastodon.social)'s status on Tuesday, 26-Mar-2024 07:14:12 JST Nixen @nixCraft 16c/32GB, for now it's sufficient, but I think I might need some more horsepower for my masters thesis (it uses quite a lot of ML and statistics calculations and I refuse to use CUDA, as I want my solution to be as portable as possible)
