   Every single rail engineer I've spoken to over the past 10 years has said more or less the same thing, including ones that have retired not because their body couldn't do it, and not because the money wasn't good but because the rail safety has dropped to 'stupendously dangerous and risky I can't believe there hasn't been a major disaster'

     Probably a lot tbh. Our government doesn't want to do anything they want the magic capitalism genie to fix it for them, and corporations sure as shit aren't going to dump money into anything remotely ultruistic.
