tortured myself to rewatch the entire harry potter series.
the first two movies directed by chris columbus are alright, there's a real whimsy to them. they're bright and orange and festive, the color schemes only deviate in specific circumstances like snowing. actually they feel a lot like christmas!
every movie after that is awful. there's no magic, no pun intended. its so dark you can make out anything and its insanely bland and boring. it really left a bad taste in my mouth.

@smugumin John Williams' score was god-tier like always. He nailed the perfect atmosphere of an Anglo-fantasy in the music. But after especially the fourth film, when he was no longer a part of the series, Warner Bros did everything to reverse his music direction and refused to use any of motifs and soundscape he created except an occasion homage to Hedwig's Theme, which people think is the HP theme.
The music of the fourth and latter films simply sucked, no magic in that either.
