   I didn't realize the IBM Displaywriter System (released 1980) was so similar to the (later) IBM PC: it's also an 8086 system, similar enough that it had a DOS port and could run CP/M-86 and UCSD p-System.

   No wonder it died out once the PC took off. It was more or less the same system but for nearly twice the price.

     @foone I worked for a company as an I.T. Support Manager where the VPs & Partners had Displaywriter hardware for their Secretaries & PAs. Everyone else had PCs with Displaywriter 3 software. The hardware version was a PITA to support as even just changing the font required messing around with an eeprom and they seemed to want to change every week
