   Back in my day, tomboy just meant a girl who preferred masculine things, from clothes to activities. Some of them even still did girly things. Prime example is Buttercup from Powerpuff Girls.

     Another good example is Girls und Panzer. Nearly every single girl in that franchise is a tomboy but they still do some girly thing. Hell the the main premise of the activity the franchise is based around is to develop these girls into good women.
