> How do they usually go about it?
They show up at your house. They don't call your cell. You get, like, syndicated cartoonists being interrogated by the Secret Service over a doodle of the president, right, they don't just call you.
> I'm still weirded out that no one's contacted me.
Yeah, they probably would have asked you instead of stalking @creamqueen from a license plate number. They don't have time to do that. They will if they've got to, but first they ask you, then either they subpoena or threaten you, then they show up at someone's house. They don't give you a warning, it's the Secret Service, they'll just refer it to local law enforcement if it's not worth making an arrest.
> They also told him it was his "first strike" and that if he did it again they'd tell his employer about how he was being racist online which strikes me as a really odd thing for a fed to do. Maybe they just think they can scare him straight?
Definitely not feds. 0% chance.

There's a possibility someone snitched. Maybe Rohan Kumar, as cum.salon situation showed he isn't above gangstalking and reporting haram content to authorities.
-
@mint @Vaghrad @RustyCrab @cassidyclown @creamqueen Ha, did he call the cops or just the ISP?
Nothing about that phone call matches how feds work, including the fact that it was a mysterious and vaguely threatening phone call.
-
@p @Vaghrad @RustyCrab @cassidyclown @creamqueen From what I've seen, first itme it was the ISP, but the amount of clicks you need to report something to the registrar's abuse mailbox and FBI's cybertip hotline is the same.
As you might know, PaulaToThePeople got shocked to find out about @PaulaToThePeople (an alt of someone I know) and asked how to deal with situation on #fediblock, people recommended him to mail the abuse report to registrar. At around the same time, cum.salon MRF rejected Rohan's instance with his presumed dox in block reasons. Now let's look at his blocklist: https://archive.fo/Ccu5J; note how the cum.salon entry mentions "several people", implying Paula wasn't the only one to complain. And if there was someone else to compain, then who could it be other than sir Kumar himself?

@mint @Vaghrad @RustyCrab @cassidyclown @creamqueen @PaulaToThePeople @p the rothschilds want to destroy the instances that i actually like and leave me trapped between troon chasers and oldtroons

@mint @Vaghrad @RustyCrab @cassidyclown @creamqueen @PaulaToThePeople Ha, hilarious. Kumar seems misguided but attempts to be honest; I would not be surprised if a bunch of Mastodongs had called the FBI, though.

@lina @Vaghrad @RustyCrab @cassidyclown @creamqueen @PaulaToThePeople @mint Cannot come up with a joke for this, too real.

@p @Vaghrad @RustyCrab @cassidyclown @creamqueen Someone's claiming you don't have enough expertise in the topic.

@mint @Vaghrad @RustyCrab @cassidyclown @creamqueen @Inginsub I didn't claim to be an expert, but I would have said the same thing before the FBI emailed me, because I didn't make the remarks based on that one incident, that's just the incident people asked about.
You could reason it out for nothing: it's easy to spoof a number, nobody makes a threat unless they want to compel you without having to do anything, nobody makes a smaller threat than they could plausibly make, and this matches the "dumb kids on internet playing mind games" M.O. perfectly. Why would the Secret goddamn Service say "We'll call your job and tell them you were racist!" instead of "We'll haul you in front of a DOJ prosecutor"? And I'd like to see one--one!--example where the Secret Service did this. The cops don't even do this, but the Secret Service is not a department that complains about budget shortfalls, and they have a habit of popping into people's houses unexpectedly.
brb the kgb has just sent me some dms on discord telling me that they saw me post that article about putin having autism and INGINSUB IS NOT AN EXPERT, HE CAN'T PROVE THAT THE KGB DOESN'T SEND PEOPLE DMS ON DISCORD

@p @Vaghrad @Inginsub @RustyCrab @cassidyclown @creamqueen Until we get the queen of cream back online for comments, it's mostly speculation. He claimed the feds did in fact search his home, something that would probably out of reach for kids doing a ruse. Maybe they just said they might contact the employer for some other reason, and he jumped to that conclusion out of shock.
-
@mint @Vaghrad @Inginsub @RustyCrab @cassidyclown @creamqueen @p Most people see suit and tie and immediately say "SEARCH MY UNDERWEAR OSSIFER!" So it certainly would not be all that surprising if it was a ruse.
But like you said it's speculation at this point.

@realman543 @Vaghrad @Inginsub @RustyCrab @cassidyclown @creamqueen @p Fake cops aren't exactly new thing, yeah.

@mint @Vaghrad @Inginsub @RustyCrab @cassidyclown @creamqueen Well, if they showed up in person, it gets more interesting. I thought he had just offered to let them over the phone.

@mint @realman543 @Vaghrad @Inginsub @RustyCrab @cassidyclown @creamqueen A few years back there was a guy in Riverside that put red and blue lights and a siren on his car, just hung out in gas stations in the desert until he spotted a lady, then pulled the car over and did rapes. His car didn't even look like a cop car, just you can't tell at night. After the news hit, I imagine the Riverside County Sheriff's Department had a harder time getting people to pull over for busted tail lights.
