@rlier23 @ninja8tyu GamerGate was a consumer revolt against the political propaganda, collusion and corruption of the gaming media. Gaming journalism has sucked as long as I can remember, but in the last few years preceding GamerGate, the journos had been compounding that sin by also pushing feminist propaganda and letting their left-liberal politics impact review scores.
Then this one sex scandal involving an indie game dev cunt called Zoe Quinn went viral - her abused boyfriend exposed that she'd cheated on him with 5 Guys, including game journos who had given her laughable non-game Depression Quest a bizarre amount of press. The REAL reason GamerGate (initially called the Quinnspiracy) blew up was the absurd amounts of online Censorship dedicated to squashing the story (remember, this was 2014, even Twitter was pretty free speech-friendly back then), up to and including 4chan shutting down Quinnspiracy threads. The Streisand Effect was in full swing, just like we recently saw with the Sweet Baby blacklist.
Then, when it turned out that they COULDN'T kill this story (Metokur's video on it reached 1 million views), the game journos changed tack and instead declared war on their own readers, informing us that Gamers Are Dead, because we'd been mean to Zoe Quinn. THAT was the point the Quinnspiracy morphed into GamerGate.
